The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were created to advance human dignity while protecting the planet. Jolynn Shoemaker, the Senior Director of Global Engagements in UC Davis Global Affairs, is supporting the integration of the SDGs in internationalization efforts and engaging members of the UC Davis campus community in the global goals. She has a background in international law, human rights and peacebuilding, and is a recognized expert on Women, Peace and Security. She previously served in both policy and attorney roles in the U.S. Department of Defense and the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and she worked in the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor. She will discuss the transformative potential of the SDGs, their global and local relevance, and the central role of younger generations in achieving this agenda.
