Introduction by Professor Kevin R. Johnson, Director of the Aoki Center
The nationwide attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education have dramatically escalated in the current administration, and universities that were once DEI’s biggest champions are increasingly laying DEI initiatives to rest. But let it not be without a eulogy. Where some see the so-called end of the DEI era as a retreat from politics to neutrality, King Hall Professor Brian Soucek argues that neutrality is a myth, especially when it comes to questions about who should benefit from the teaching and research that universities exist to support.
