UC Davis Cultural Studies Colloquium with Dr. Lorena Marquez

I had the pleasure of viewing a webinar in the UC Davis Cultural Studies Colloquium.  Dr. Lorena Marquez of the Chicano Studies Department discussed her new book La Gente: Struggles for Empowerment and Community Self-Determination in Sacramento (University of Arizona Press, 2020).  The book traces the rise of the Chicano/o Movement in Sacramento and the role of everyday People in galvanizing a collective to seek lasting and transformative change during the 1960s and 1970s.

Lorena is a super scholar and person.  I have guest-lectured in her Chicanx Studies classes on several occasions, including a few weeks ago when I discussed the 2020 elections and voting.

Lorena’s talk made me immediately buy her book.
