Town hall with LL.M. students around the world

Remember the old saying "the early bird catches the worm?"  To make the town hall accessible to prospective and continuing LL.M. students around the world, UC Davis School of Law held a 5 A.M. PST Zoom forum to provide information about the school's plans for 2020 instruction, and to answer visa and other questions.  We had scores of prospective and returning LL.M. students, as well as a few J.D. students, on the line.

Our international students add much to the educational program at King Hall. The students, many of whom are practicing lawyers, teach our faculty and J.D. students that the U.S. way of doing things is not the only way things must be done. In addition, the international students bring cultural and other diversity that enriches the entire law school community.

I welcomed the students and outlined plans for fall 2020 instruction, which is slated to be a combination of online/remote and in-person instruction. This hybrid format allows the school to protect student health while ensuring a truly excellent educational experience for our students. Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Afra Afsharipour and Associate Dean for International Programs Beth Greenwood offered further instructional and related information to the students.

The fundamental message is that UC Davis School of Law is committed to our international students and will assist and support them in coming to the United States and throughout their educational program.

The participants had many questions about the LL.M. program, ranging from whether classes will be recorded, to how they would buy course books, to whether Davis public schools might be open for their children.

Talking with our international students was a wonderful way to start the day!
