'Toward a Better Understanding of Free Speech'

Brian Soucek

Professor Brian Soucek participated today in the UC Davis Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion forum "Toward a Better Understanding of Free Speech." The forum addressed the use, protections and limitations of free speech.

At a time when the First Amendment is used as a defense for hate speech, it is important to understand one of our most cherished values in order to equip our community with information and reduce the sense of powerlessness many have expressed in recent days.

Following the panel's presentations, Vice Chancellor Renetta Garrison Tull moderated an audience Q&A.

Professor Soucek is a UC National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement 2020-21 fellow.
