It is the end of the academic year and time for celebrations.  Last week, graduating students who completed the requirements for the Immigration Law Certificate were presented with their framed certificates and had lunch with the immigration law faculty.  The certificate program was initiated as part of the law school’s effort to provide students with broad and deep exposure to immigration and citizenship law and help prepare students for practice in the area.  The certificate is awarded upon completion of at least 15 units of immigration law, citizenship law and related courses, a substantial research paper on an immigration or citizenship law related topic, and students must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.0 in graded certificate classes.

This year's group dedicated to immigration law included:

  • Manuela Boucher-De La Cadena
  • Angela Yahaira Breining
  • Ryan Choi
  • Gloria Chong
  • Ian Daugherty
  • Christian Hatchett
  • Eva Loney
  • Jessica Martinez
  • Alana Murphy
  • Precious Neube
  • Meena Visvanathan
  • Savannah Weil-Dye

Students shared with the group the wonderful jobs that they would be taking including for CLRA Foundation, UC Immigrant Legal Services Center, and much more.  It was great to hear of the work that this group of alums will be doing.

Faculty members who participate in the Immigration Law certificate program include Professors Jack Chin, Holly Cooper, Amagda Perez, Leticia Saucedo, Brian Soucek, Shayak Sarkar, and myself.   The certificate program reminded me that UC Davis School of Law has an amazing immigration faculty, perhaps the very best in the country.
