Statement on Monterey Park and Half Moon Bay

Building

We all are deeply saddened by the past weekend’s mass shooting in Monterey Park, a predominantly Asian American community in Southern California well-known for its welcoming treatment of immigrants. That this senseless violence took place during Lunar New Year festivities – a time for celebration, reflection and gathering with friends and family – compounds the tragedy. The tragic deaths two days later in Half Moon Bay add to the collective sense of loss.

Students in need of mental health assistance can reach out to the law school’s psychologist, Dr. Margaret Lee, at [email protected] or make an appointment with UC Davis Student Health and Counseling Services.

Yesterday, the California Asian American and Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus hosted a vigil to remember the Monterey Park victims, and provided a safe space to the AAPI community and allies, at the state Capitol in Sacramento.

We will provide information on future events and resources as they become available.
