Sacramento Federal Bar Association free speech panel discussion

Last week, I had the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion on free speech on university campuses at the Justice Anthony Kennedy Learning Center at the federal courthouse in Sacramento. The event was sponsored by the Federal Bar Association Sacramento Chapter.

The Kennedy Learning Center has a wonderful set of exhibits, including one on the famous “Unabomber” trial in the Eastern District courthouse. The case involved a defendant convicted of a series of bombings.

The panel included, among others, Professor Leslie Jacobs of McGeorge and was moderated by Justice Fred Morrison (retired) of the California Courts of Appeals. We had a robust discussion of the free speech issues that have been arising on college campuses across the United States.

The event had a wonderfully engaged audience, including U.S. District Judge William Shubb, who recently served as a judge in our 50th Neumiller Moot Court Final Round.
