Professor Tang Discusses His New Book About Supreme Court

Professor Aaron Tang

It was my pleasure to introduce Professor Aaron Tang, a constitutional law scholar and former clerk to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, at an event to celebrate his new book Supreme Hubris: How Overconfidence is Destroying the Court—and How We Can Fix It.

The high court faces a “legitimacy crisis” with the American public, Professor Tang said. Although partisanship is a factor, "another force is in play," he said, something "all of us are vulnerable to: overconfidence." Today's justices are “more certain than ever – nine unelected lawyers --- that they alone can solve society’s most difficult moral policy questions with just the right lawyers' argument.”

Professor Tang's talk drew an (in-person and virtual) audience of nearly 200 people. He makes the law school proud!
