Professor Pruitt Speaks to S.F. Crowd about 'The Uncondemned'
Guest post by Afra Afsharipour, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs
On Thursday, Sept. 20, I had the privilege of attending a screening of " The Uncondemned" hosted by IANGEL at the law firm of Hanson Bridgett in San Francisco. The room was packed with lawyers from the greater Bay Area.
This remarkable film features UC Davis Law Professor Lisa Pruitt, whose report for the International Tribunal for Rwanda played a key role in the groundbreaking war crimes prosecution of Jean-Paul Akayesu. Professor Pruitt’s work was critical in the historic case to prosecute rape as a war crime. It was a privilege to attend the screening with Professor Pruitt and Professor Shayak Sarkar. The screening was followed by a Q&A, where Professor Pruitt reflected on her work in the case and its connections to contemporary debates about rape and sexual assault, as well as to her scholarly work on rurality. The evening was both educational and incredibly moving.
