Professor Pérez Receives Award from City of Davis

This week, the City of Davis presented Professor Amagda Pérez with the Thong Hy Huynh Memorial Award, which honors outstanding service in addressing human rights issues.  The award honors Professor Pérez's work improving legal access for rural immigrant communities. 

Professor Margaret Johns, Professor Miguel Mendez, Kirsten Hill, Martha Jaime, and Amagda's sister Adelina, husband Alvaro, and two daughters (Quetzali and Megali) were at the City Council meeting where the honor was awarded.  Mayor Joe Krovoza ’94 was out of town on business, so City Council member Sue Greenwald presented Amagda with the award.  Amagda said a few words, thanking her family and friends and mentors for their support.

Actually, I had two reasons to be at the City Council meeting.  My son's Race and Social Justice teacher, Kevin Williams, and his class were  honored with the Community Education and Awareness Award.   Tomás and some of his classmates were in attendance, too!
