Professor Keitner to Deliver CILC Lecture
UC Davis Law Professor Chimène Keitner will deliver a lecture - "Accountability for Russian Aggression in Ukraine" - on Sept. 5. The California International Law Center (CILC) event will take place at King Hall in room 1301 from 12-1 p.m.
Russia’s further invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, 2022 ignited the largest land war in Europe since World War Two. Ukraine has pursued legal redress, even as the fighting continues. Professor Keitner will discuss ongoing proceedings in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), as well as proposals for a new special tribunal for the crime of aggression, and war crimes prosecutions in Ukrainian and other courts.
Chimène Keitner is Martin Luther King Jr. Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law, where she teaches Civil Procedure, Cyberlaw, International Law, Law and Digital Technology. Professor Chimène Keitner is a leading authority on international law and civil litigation, and served as the 27th Counselor on International Law in the U.S. Department of State. She has authored two books and dozens of articles, essays, and book chapters on questions surrounding the relationship among law, communities, and borders, including issues of jurisdiction, extraterritoriality, foreign sovereign and foreign official immunity, and the historical understandings underpinning current practice in these areas.
