Professor Joe Discusses Mistakes In Criminal Justice System

On Feb. 22, Professor Irene Joe was a featured speaker in the Aoki Center for Race and Nation Studies seminar series. Her talk — Learning From Mistakes — focused on the mistakes in the criminal justice system.  

Always insightful and thoughtful, Professor Joe looked carefully at the role of the public defender in the U.S. system of criminal justice. The paper presented makes suggestions for reform for the public defender system. Her focus was on death penalty cases that were moved from death row. Before entering academia, Professor Joe served as a public defender in Louisiana.  

Faculty, students, and community members no doubt learned much from Professor Joe’s cogent and timely presentation.
