Professor Florey lectures on tribal status in the United States
I always like to stop in to the Aoki Center seminar series and hear a different perspective on Critical Race Theory. This week, I was able to catch Professor Katherine Florey talking about “Uniqueness and Beyond The Contradictions of Tribal Status in the United States.”
Professor Florey’s research interests include federal Indian law, civil procedure, private international law, and public health law and policy. Within Indian law, Professor Florey is particularly interested in the power of tribal courts. Professor Florey talked about the special status of Indian tribes in U.S. jurisprudence.
She closed by looking at recent developments in Indian law, which often cannot be predicted by conventional political lines, in the U.S. Supreme Court. She left the students with optimism about the ability of the U.S., state, and tribal; governments to work together in the future.
Professor Florey offered a wonderful introduction to the topic of federal Indian law, which is fascinating. Attorneys with knowledge of Indian law are in demand.
