Professor Elvy Kicks Off Critical Perspectives on 1L Curriculum

This week, the Aoki Center on Critical Race and Nation Studies kicked off its annual Critical Perspectives on the first-year curriculum. Professor Stacy-Ann Elvy, who is currently teaching civil procedure, discussed how pleading rules can have racial impacts on what cases are decided on their merits. She spoke to a full house of students.

Professor Elvy’s presentation is a nice lead into a Sept. 21 discussion during the lunch hour of the book A Guide to Civil Procedure: Integrating Critical Legal Perspectives (Brooke Coleman et al. editors, 2022). I contributed a chapter to the book on race and juries. Professor Brian Soucek wrote about whether a gay judge could decide a gay rights case. 
 
In coming weeks, Professor Raquel Aldana will offer critical perspectives on criminal law and Professor Tom Joo will offer critical perspectives on contracts.
