Past speakers at King Hall share New York Review of Books cover

Here's a bit of fun trivia: I noticed the Oct. 22 cover of The New York Review of Books highlighted two of our past speakers for endowed lectures.  Annette Gordon-Reed wrote an  essay about Saidiya Hartman and "Rebellious History" and  David Cole offered  a remembrance of the late U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

On Sept. 17, 2018, Cole, national legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union, delivered the UC Davis School of Law’s annual Edward L. Barrett Jr. Lecture on constitutional law.

And on Sept. 18, 2019, Gordon-Reed, Charles Warren Professor of American Legal History at Harvard Law School, professor of history at Harvard University, and a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, delivered the Central Valley Foundation/James B. McClatchy Lecture on the First Amendment at the law school.

What a coincidence that they graced the cover of the same issue of this prestigious publication!
