UC Davis School of Law just kicked off the 31st annual Orientation to USA Law program, with more than 35 lawyers, judges, and scholars from around the world.

The USA Law program was one of the law school’s first forays into international legal education.  I always enjoy the students, who bring a refreshing inquisitiveness and enthusiasm to the study of law in the United States.  I had the pleasure of welcoming the group on behalf of the entire UC Davis campus, administration, the law school faculty and staff, students, alumni, and friends.

The students will be studying at one of 10 campuses that comprise the University of California, perhaps the best public university system in the world.  The UC Davis campus has a worldwide reputation for outstanding research and teaching.  By participating in the USA Law Program, each of the students becomes part of our own legal community – that of the UC Davis Law – with its distinguished faculty and alumni practicing law in the United States and around the world.  One of five law schools in the University of California system, UC Davis is about 50 years old, but already distinguished for its international programs, public service, human rights, immigration, environmental, intellectual property and business curriculum.  UC Davis School of Law provides an educational atmosphere that emphasizes a close student-faculty experience, excellent teaching, and an openness to new ideas.  The law school has many programs for international students.

We are honored to have so many accomplished individuals in the law from so many countries from around the world.

An amazing staff oversees the USA Law program:  Beth Greenwood, Associate Dean for International Programs; Helen Rho, Academic Coordinator of International Law Programs; Mary Anne Baird, Program Coordinator; and Arisah Donovan, Program Coordinator, and their wonderful student assistants.

Thanks to all of the participants in the USA Law program for coming to UC Davis!
