MLK Day of Service Naturalization Workshop

Last Saturday morning, the UC Davis School of Law continued its service in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a naturalization program at the Mexican consulate in Sacramento. Students and faculty worked with the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation to prepare naturalization petitions for members of our community.  

 

As co-director of the UC Davis Law Immigration Law Clinic Professor Amagda Pérez, who organized the program, wrote to volunteers:

 

"We are so grateful for your support and willingness to share your expertise to protect the legal status of our clients. Your final review of applications made it possible for community members most in need to not only begin the naturalization process but secure their future in the United States and have more access to lifeline services. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be proud to know that such committed social justice advocates as yourselves are making his dream of equity and justice for all a possibility for low-income, rural communities."

It made me proud that the King Hall community represented itself to help people needing legal assistance.
