A Lesson in Court Attire

A couple months ago I had lunch with one of my students, now a 2L. He interned with a federal judge last summer and shared an incident when an attorney appeared for a court Zoom wearing a Hawaiian shirt. Well, our student got to hear the judge berate the attorney for 10 minutes over how inappropriately he was dressed.
I thought the story was a good way to teach my current LRW classes about professional court attire. Of course, it seemed only right that I deliver the lecture in a Hawaiian shirt.
Last week, a student emails asking me to wear the same Hawaiian shirt to class today that I wore during that court attire lecture. She said students were celebrating Halloween and Dia de los Muertos and hoped I would join in. I walked into class last Thursday to find them all dressed in Hawaiian shirts!
These 1Ls are an amazing group of young people.
