Last Day of 2018 AALS: Success!

The annual meeting of the Association of American Law Schools is always busy and a productive few days. The 2018 meeting was no different.

UC Davis was featured prominently on the closing day of the conference. I was on an Immigration Law Section panel, "Immigration Adjudication in an Era of Mass Deportation." I had the pleasure of having Lucas Guggentag (Stanford), Jason Cade (Georgia), and Nora Phillips (Staff Attorney, Al Otro Lado) as co-panelists. I discussed how President Trump's two January 2017 immigration enforcement executive orders, which have not been as widely discussed as the three versions of the "travel ban," will have impacts on immigration adjudication. We had a lively and far-ranging discussion of contemporary developments in immigration law in the first year of the Trump administration. The panelists also discussed possibilities for reform. 

After my panel, Irene Joe presented a work-in-progress in the "Professional Responsibility Works-in-Progress Session." In addition, King Hall's newest faculty member, Shayak Sarkar, participated in the "New Voices in Property Law: Junior Scholars Works-in-Progress Panel." I visited both of them before their presentations. 

The conference ended today. I am pleased that UC Davis School of Law contributed significantly to the scholarly exchanges at the 2018 AALS conference.
