Korea University Conference and Catching up with Alums in Seoul

It has been a busy and fulfilling trip to visit with alums and friends of UC Davis School of Law -- and to make some new friends in high places-- in Seoul, South Korea.

Early the next day after arriving in beautiful Seoul, a bustling city of great energy and character, Professor KS Park of Korea University took me to a wonderful oceanside course to play golf.  The challenging course was great fun with wonderful company.

In the afternoon, Associate Dean for International Programs Beth Greenwood and I visited with General Lee, who leads the High Military Court of Korea.  We had lunch with General Lee and several members of his staff.  UC Davis LL.M. alum KJ Shin arranged the lunch and visit to the main courtroom and detention facilities used by the High Military Court. The facilities were tastefully decorated with community art adorning the halls and rooms.

We held a dinner for alums and friends of King Hall at a downtown Seoul restaurant. It was well-attended and it was great to see alums like KJ Shin and friends like Professor KS Park.

On the second full day, UC Davis shined with a wonderful conference on U.S. constitutional law headlined by Professors Ash Bhagwat, Irene Joe, Elizabeth Joh, and me at Korea University.  KU professors commented on the papers.  It was an enriching day as the American and Korean scholars compared notes. 

It was a wonderful few days in Seoul.  UC Davis made quite a splash.
