International webinar puts 2020 in perspective
Ambassador Hisashi Owada
This week, I had the pleasure of participating in an international webinar that gave me lots to think about with respect to the UC Davis School of Law international programs. The webinar made me reflect on how strong our international ties are with Asia, Europe and South America.
The Harvard Law School Association International Forum 2020 is a global series featuring speakers from around the world. The speakers reflected on how COVID-19 impacted their regions, and the current economic, social and legal contexts.
Salvo Arena
Salvo Arena, managing partner at Chiomenti Studio Legale, offered welcome remarks. The first speaker was Ambassador Hisashi Owada, former president of the International Court of Justice, judge of the International Court of Justice, senior advisor to the president of the World Bank, permanent representative of Japan to the United Nations, and HLS visiting professor.
We also heard speakers from India, Brazil, and Europe. Mary Robinson, seventh president of Ireland (1990–97), and former United Nations high commissioner for human rights, was one of the speakers.
Obviously, the pandemic is having global impacts. It really is true that we are all in this together.
