The UC Davis Law Review hosted an amazing symposium, “The ‘E’ in ESG.” I welcomed the participants and offered a special welcome to the keynote speaker, Tariq Fancy, former Chief Investment Officer for Sustainable Investing at BlackRock and an impressive array of panelists from across the nation.

Environmental, social and governance  - or ESG - issues are cornerstones of any discussion of corporate accountability today. Applying environmental criteria – the “E” in ESG – to corporate activities is a priority for investors, corporate managers, employees, customers and other stakeholders. ESG is crucial to attorneys who work with corporate clients. The conference brings together strengths of UC Davis School of Law including business law, environmental law, and social justice.

It is wonderful that our faculty participated in this very timely symposium, including Professor Albert Lin, this symposium’s advisor and a moderator, as well as moderators Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Afra Afsharipour and Professor Menesh Patel. Professor Amelia Miazad, an expert on the nexus between corporate law and ESG issues, was a panelist.

Our incredible Law Review students put together an amazing event. UC Davis Law Review Senior Symposium Editors Natasha Kang ‘23 and Casey Loosbrock ‘23 did a great job organizing this event. Our law review is on a roll - it just made the top 20 in the latest Washington & Lee rankings.
