Last week, I attended an event at the Schwartz/Levi Inn of Court that examined law and racism. The pupilage group presented a discussion of the Citing Slavery Project, which looks at the role of law in enforcing slavery and focuses on incidents in the South.

The presentation also looked at the treatment of indigenous people in California. UC Davis Law Professor Katherine Florey and Native American Studies Professor Beth Middleton discussed this history.

It was a fascinating discussion. UC Davis Law alum Darcie Houck '98 introduced the topic and law student Fernando Torres '24 helped plan the presentation.
