Hosting this year's first Inn of Court meeting

On September 11, 2019, UC Davis School of Law hosted the first meeting of the school year of the Schwartz/Levi Inn of Court. The Inn is a group of local judges, lawyers, professors, and students who meet once a month to discuss topical legal issues. It is a wonderful way for our students to network with local lawyers and judges.
The first meeting is always a fun one with the group getting to know each other. Law students Estela Barajas and Heather Bates were student members of the "pupilage group" that organized the first meeting.
Senior Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Emily Scivoletto, Professors Carlton Larson and Kelly Behre are members and were in attendance. Professor Larson was recognized for the 2019 Distinguished Teaching Award. In addition, the law school was recognized for the more than $1 million gift to support the work of the Immigration Law Clinic.
Judge Emily Vasquez, a true friend of King Hall, asked me to say a few words about the nation's response to the events of September 11, 2001 since the first meeting was on an anniversary of that day. My comments focused on how the courts have responded and helped to ensure that measures taken in the name of national security are consistent with the law.
The evening was a wonderful beginning of the Inn year.
