I had a delightful evening at the Annual Bench Bar reception in Sacramento celebrating a dedicated friend of UC Davis School of Law, Judge Emily Vasquez of the Sacramento County Superior Court. The Sacramento County Bar Association named Judge Vasquez the 2019 Judge of the Year. I was one of her nominators for the award and had the honor of sitting at Judge Vasquez’s table.

2L student Kendra Rivas met many King Hall alums, including Judge Stacy Boulware Eurie '95, Santiago Avila '02, Judge Judy Hersher '84, and many more.  Other alums in attendance included Chris Alvarez '13, Justice Kathleen Butz '81, Jenny Gomez '12, Judge David Brown '74, Judge Mike Garcia '74, plus more. 

Professor Amagda Perez '91, along with a table from California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation (including Jessica Martinez '19), also attended the event.  We all had the honor of hearing Judge Vasquez's heartfelt remarks about growing up in a farmworker labor camp to going to law school, practicing law, and serving as a judge.  

It was a warm and wonderful evening.
