On a beautiful spring day, scores of students, faculty, and staff turned out to play in the pandemic-compliant, socially distanced 12th Annual Steve Boutin Golf Tournament. The event, benefiting the King Hall Legal Foundation, was held on April 2, 2021, at the Wildhorse Golf Club in Davis. All proceeds support summer scholarships for law students serving in unpaid public interest internships.
I returned with my top-notch Dean's Team, with Ian Dougherty
'19, driving like a demon and putting for the ages, leading the way. Two of my college friends, Leo O'Farrell and Steve Roscow, returned and golfed like pros. Scrupulously following tournament rules, our team had a blazing score of 56, with two eagles. But that was not enough to win the coveted Clay Tanaka Trophy. A team led by Scott Judson
'12 shot a 52, a score that attracted the attention of Wildhorse staff and prompted an investigation. The outcome of the investigation was unknown at press time.
Former Alumni Board President Steve Boutin
'72, for whom the tournament is named, was honored by the students. Professor Clay Tanaka was honored as well. At the awards ceremony, the KHLF students presented me with a blue Boutin Invitational blazer, which now accompanies the green blazer from my victory in the Boutin Invitational two years ago.
The players included many other alums, including Kim Lucia
'09 (former Alumni Board President) Errol Dauis
'11 (Rising Star Alumni Award winner 2021), Bob Barton
'88 (former member of the Alumni Board) and John McKinsey
'99 (who teaches a class at King Hall).
Many faculty, alums, and others were sponsors of the tournament. Professor Margaret Johns
'76 sponsored a hole as did Professor Tanaka, Steve Boutin, John McKinsey, and many others.
Congratulations to the KHLF co-chairs from the Class of 2022 - Courtney Schwyzer, Camille Halley and Corina Yetter - for their outstanding work on this event!
