Former Solicitor General Paul Clement Co-Authors Brief with Immigration Law Clinic

This week, I received some exciting news from Immigration Law Clinic Attorney Holly Cooper. She writes:

UC Davis Immigration Law Clinic students Melanie Young, Charlene Chen, and Christine Meeuwsen had the honor of collaborating with the nation’s best appellate lawyers, Paul Clement, Erin Murphy, and Michael McGinley of Bancroft PLLC, in drafting our client’s opening brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. One of the issues in the case is whether the client will be tortured due to her sexual orientation if she is deported to Jamaica. The lawyers’ collaboration with the clinic provided an optimal educational opportunity for students to learn the art of appellate advocacy from the nation’s best lawyers. The client’s opening brief was filed yesterday, Thursday June 27, 2013.

Clement Brief

Paul Clement served as the 43rd Solicitor General of the United States. In his career, he has argued over 65 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Working with him is a truly incredible opportunity for our clinic students!

The case is Hubbard v. Holder. We will put more information on the Law School's News page as the case develops.
