First-Ever Private Practice Preview Program
On Friday, February 23, 2018, leading law firms in Sacramento put together the first Private Practice Preview Program (PPPP) exclusively for UC Davis School of law students. The event was designed to introduce students to private practice. Thirty first-year law students traveled to Sacrament where they started with a networking lunch. The students then broke into smaller groups and rotated between the offices Delfino Madden O’Malley Coyle Koewler, a 14-attorney boutique firm, Boutin Jones Inc., a regional, midsize 50-ttorney firm, and Orrick, an international law firm with offices throughout the world. The students were provided with an invaluable opportunity to find out how law firms of different sizes operate, learn about the diverse areas in which their attorneys practice , and to network with a number of local attorneys.
I want to especially thank Steve Boutin ’72, founder of Boutin Jones, who conceived of the program and who along with the help of John O’Malley ’98 of Delfino Madden, Marc Levinson ’73, Martin Ruano, Rhonda McKinney of Orrick, and Craig Compton, our Assistant Dean of Career Services, organized the event. I also want to thank Gregory Phillipp ’08, Kevin Davis ’07, Kate Wittlake ’16, Alexandra Guerra ’17, Sue Chang ’16, Katie Briscoe ’12, Robert Fuller, Kaitlyn Saberin, David Spencer, Nick Horton, Rabi David, and Justin Giovannettone, who also volunteered their time on a Friday afternoon to educate our students about working in law firms of all different sizes.
