Engaging Business Law Journal symposium focuses on corporate ethics

It is that time of year – what I call symposium season. On April 8, the Business Law Journal held its symposium on “Corporate Ethics in a Changing World.” Students organized a top-notch group of scholars to engage in critical conversations about corporate ethics.  Issues discussed were related to the corporate workplace of the digital age. Experts in academia, legal practice, and activism discussed the role of ethics in technological innovation, the duties a corporation owes to its community, and how diversity, equity, and inclusion are best promoted in the corporate workplace.

UC Davis Law Professor Stacy-Ann Elvy moderated the first panel with Peter-Paul Verbeek (University of Twente), Daniel Barcay (vice president of Planet Labs, former chief technology officer of Thiel Macro), and King Hall’s Professor Peter Lee.

Afternoon panels were moderated by our own Professor William Dodge and Renetta Garrison Tull (UC Davis Vice Chancellor of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion). The final panel on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion included Veronica Root Martinez (Professor of Law, Notre Dame Law School), Tracy Richelle High (partner, Sullivan & Cromwell), Lisa M. Fairfax (Professor of Business Law, George Washington University Law), and Frank Dobbin (Professor of Sociology, Harvard).
