Historically, the first-year law student experience has lagged after the first semester and grades have been posted. To encourage our first-year students, Senior Assistant Dean Emily Scivoletto organized our first annual lunch for the first-year class. We had a full house of students in the Kalmanovitz Appellate Courtroom!
Besides enjoying delicious pizza, students heard from King Hall’s student affairs professionals on resources available to first-year students. Director of Academic Support Chris Ide-Don talked about the array of academic support services for first-year students. Assistant Dean for Career Services Craig Compton talked about employment opportunities for law students. (As a footnote, nearly 90 percent of the Class of 2019 already has full-time legal employment.). Margaret Lee, the law school’s on-site counselor, offered advice on coping with the stresses of the first year.
The lunch was upbeat and reminded me just how special the UC Davis School of Law community is.
