Chicanx Studies Border Speakers' Series
This week, I was able to watch the latest installment of the Border Speakers' Series organized and sponsored by the Chicanx Studies 130 US Mexico Border class with Professor Clarissa Rojas.
Professor Rojas introduced Pedro Ríos. He is the director of the American Friends Service Committee's US-Mexico Border Program. Rios discussed the work of the American Friends Service Committee along the border. He offered insights on the current situation on the border including the politics of migration at the San Diego/Tijuana border and mass expulsions under the Title 42 order initially put in place by President Trump and continued by President Biden.
Students, faculty, and staff joined the Zoom presentation and learned firsthand about current conditions along the border.
Rios was interviewed by NPR and published a recent article on Title 42 and its impact on migrants on the border.
