Celebrating the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights

UC Davis today held a Celebration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on its 70th anniversary. Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Afra Afsharipour elegantly introduced a panel of speakers. UC Davis Professor Karima Bennoune spoke on the basic human rights protected by the UN Declaration and the contemporary challenges faced by the world. She highlighted issues in her report to the UN Assembly,  "Universality, cultural diversity, and cultural rights.”

Distinguished Professor of Law Naomi Roht-Arriaza of UC Hastings spoke next. It was great seeing an old friend from my law firm days. Lorena Zenteno, a LL.M. student from Chile, was the final speaker, offering a non-US perspective on the UN Declaration.

We had a full house of students, faculty, and community members in attendance. It was truly a rich celebration of the UN Declaration.
