Celebrating Professor Pérez

On September 12, I had the pleasure of seeing Professor Amagda Pérez, one of my former students, be honored by the Mexican government with the Ohtli Award for opening pathways for Mexicans citizens in the United States. The Award ceremony was at the Mexican consulate in Sacramento and Consul General Liliana Ferrer, a dear friend of UC Davis School of Law, presided over the ceremony. She spoke of the dedication and devotion of Professor Pérez to the immigrant communities and her years of providing legal assistance and guidance to those in need through her roles with the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation and the Immigration Law Clinic.

Humble as always, Professor Pérez offered heartfelt remarks of how her parents laid the groundwork for her ability to serve immigrants and how her husband and two daughters made her current work possible.

UC Davis had a great showing with many alums, students, and faculty in attendance.
