On-Campus Interview season starts strong

The On-Campus Interview (OCI) season began last week and our students are doing well again this year. Over 110 employers have signed up to participate in the school’s OCI and Resume Collection programs that take place throughout August and September. In addition, many students received offers to interview with leading law firms after attending networking sessions throughout the summer.

Our students have been interviewing with leading firms throughout California, including: Simpson Thacher, White & Case, Sullivan Cromwell, Davis Polk, Baker Botts, Goodwin, Jones Day, Baker & McKenzie, Cooley, Morrison & Foerster, Orrick, Latham, Quinn Emmanuel, Perkins Coie, Reed Smith, Gibson Dunn, King & Spalding, Arnold & Porter, O’Melveny & Myers, Boutin Jones, Wilmer Hale, Keker Van Nest & Peters, DLA Piper, Fenwick and many others.

The Career Services Office also expects to have another 100 employers visit the law school during its annual Small and Midsize Firm Fair and its Public Interest and Government Job Fair, which will be held in October and November respectively. We are excited to have an increase in employers participating in our job programs and are always working to add new employers. For example, in September the State Department will be on campus to interview students for their summer legal internship program.

I and our Assistant Dean for Career Services, Craig Compton, also had the great opportunity to catch up with a number of alums who were among the employers who came to campus over the last week. They included Suzanne Graeser ’87 from Morrison & Foerster, Katie Briscoe ’12 from Orrick, Michael Holmes ’98 and Abby Bloetscher ’16 from Allen Matkins, Shree Sharma ’17 from Baker & McKenzie, Kim Hood ’03 from Best Best Krieger, John Clendenin ’05 from Cooley, Victoria Wong ’15 from Fenwick & West, Jacob Peterson ’11 from Knobbe Martens, Hayes Hyde ’15 from Goodwin LLP, Robin Finch ’01 from Greenberg Glusker, Samantha Beatty ’14 and Adam Brownout ’18 from Reed Smith, Michael Wanser ’07 from Abbey Weitzenberg, Austin Cho ’15 from Downey Brand, Kelly Volkar ’14 from O’Melveny & Myers, Steven Nguy '15 from Richards, Watson, & Gershon, Steve Boutin ’72 and Mollie Murphy ’17 from Boutin Jones, Julie Schwartz ’08 from Perkins Coie, Sarah Woolston ’17 from Matheny Sears, Naomi Ruben ’12 from the State Water Resources Control Board, David Richardson ’07 from DLA Piper, and Angela Han ’17 and Ellen Demson ’18 from Hinshaw & Culbertson.

The visiting employers universally praised our students. It was great to hear that our students were well prepared and enthusiastic about the opportunities. I want to thank all the employers who take time to travel to Davis to meet with our students, and I look forward to meeting with more employers and alums throughout the summer and during the fall semester as they come to campus.
