BLSA Banquet

BLSA Banquet

At the end of February, I had the honor of attending the third annual banquet of the Black Law Students Association at the Sheraton in Sacramento.

BLSA Banquet certificates

It was a wonderful and inspiring evening honoring a group of BLSA students from the Class of 2022 who all have landed great jobs:

  • Kalan Andrews – Service Employees International Union (SEIU)
  • Julie Joseph – First Judicial District, Carson City, NV
  • Alexis Logan – UC Davis Compliance and Policy Department
  • Dominique Pope – Seyfarth Shaw LLP
  • Dayja Tillman – ACLU of Michigan
  • Taylor Todd – Sidley Austin
  • Kelli Ward – Orrick, Herrington, and Sutcliffe
BLSA Banquet speaker

The keynote speaker was Judge Stacy Boulware Eurie, Class of 1995, who lauded the students for their achievements and encouraged them "to be a good person" as well as a successful professional. Judge Boulware Eurie's insightful remarks struck a chord with the BLSA students and their friends and families.

The attendance was great. I sat with our keynote speaker, Judge Shama Mesiwala '98 (who also had been with me just a few hours before at the Diversity Career Fair for law students and employers in Sacramento), Dean of Admissions Kristen Mercado, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Fellow Alexis Elston.

The evening included a raffle of gifts from Black-owned business, including the Great Bear Winery in Davis (not far from my house).

Congratulations to the BLSA Class of 2022!
