Aoki Center and UC Davis DEI and Hispanic Serving Institution Event
This week, King Hall hosted Professor Danny Martinez of the School of Education at UC Davis. His talk was on the language practices of Latinx and Black youth and was framed by his experience as a public school teacher.
The talk was part of the Aoki Center on Critical Race and Nation Studies and the UC Davis Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Speaker Series. This is the second year of this important series as UC Davis emerges as an HSI.
Dr. Martinez offered insights of the use of Spanglish and Black use of linguistic forms (Black English) deviating from traditional English.
The diverse group of attendees came from across campus.
