Aoki Center and Negotiation Skills lectures

Intellectual life is alive and well at UC Davis School of Law. The other day, I visited not one, but two invigorating virtual events over the lunch hour.

The Aoki Center on Critical Race and Nation Studies lecture series hosted Professor Robert Chang from Seattle University School of Law. Professor Chang, a longtime friend and co-author to Professor Keith Aoki, who the center is named after, discussed dog-whistle politics and Asian Americans in an era of Trump. I have known Professor Chang for years, and he is a true civil rights icon. We were lucky to hear from him.

The King Hall Negotiations Team and Professor Donna Shestowsky held a wonderful panel on Negotiation Skills in the Public Sector. There was a superstar panel of Jennifer Carbuccia (general counsel of Sweetwater Union High School District), Kevin Dubrall (public defender, San Francisco), Kevin Baker (legislative director, ACLU of California Center for Advocacy & Policy, ), and Sarah McBride '09 (National Labor Relations Board) discussing the importance of negotiations skills in public-sector positions. Participants received outstanding practice tips.

Times are tough. Still, learning and growth are going on at King Hall.
