Annual UC Public Service Law Conference

Last weekend, I attended the 3rd Annual University of California Public Service Law Conference at UC Irvine.  President Napolitano, the UC law deans, and students from all the UC law schools were there.   The conference allows students to build community with like-minded students pursuing public service careers.  President Napolitano provided funding for students to attend the event as well as for the fellowship program supporting law students working for nonprofit and government entities.  I was honored to be on the first program of the day with law deans of UC Berkeley (Erwin Chemerinsky), UC Irvine (Song Richardson), and UCLA (Jennifer Mnookin). 

We discussed the role of law schools in promoting public service work, the curriculum, bar passage, and more.  It was a rich and energized discussion followed by Q&A.  The conference was rich with panels on rural, environmental, immigration, housing, criminal justice, voting rights, and much more.  A special treat was President Napolitano discussing at lunch the DACA case currently pending in the U.S. Supreme Court.  We had a great group of UC Davis students including Sofia Parino, Alec Nocco, Saraf Ahmed, Diana CabreraVega, Raquel Campuzano Santamaria, Leticia Casillas Luquin, Daria Clecicov, Sandy Garcia, Carson Graves, Paris Gravley, Amelia Haney, Vanessa Hofman, Emily Kirk, Laura Kurtz, Jen-Ann Lee, Morgan Liggan, Brianna Locatelli, Christine Long, Aysha Majeed, Hillary Marston, Justine Massey , Veronika Morrison, Vivienne Pismarov, Jennifer Ramon, Evan Reid , Jacqueline Reynders, Kendra Rivas, Lance Schimke, Madison Tanner, Dayja Tillman, Melissa Tribble, Maleah Vidal, Nora Williams, Jessica Yasutome, and Christopher Zoukis.
