Admitted Students Reception in San Francisco

Last week, I visited San Francisco to see friends of UC Davis School of Law, alums, and admitted students.  The afternoon began with a visit with Dan Girard `84 at the law offices of Girard Sharp on California Street in San Francisco. The firm has established a record of successful outcomes representing plaintiffs in class actions and other complex litigation.  A longtime supporter of King Hall, Dan is slated to be elected to the prestigious American Law Institute's Council at the May meeting.

I then met with Mark Perry `80, another longtime supporter of UC Davis School of Law.  Indeed, the Career Services Office at King Hall bears Mark and his wife, Melanie Pena's, names.  I was able to fill Mark in on the goings on at King Hall.  We left agreeing to meet up at the Cal/UC Davis football game in August.

The day ended with a wonderful reception at the law firm offices of Hinshaw & Culbertson on the Embarcadero.  Robert Romero `88, who was in trial at the time, opened his firm's offices to admitted students, alums, and friends of King Hall.  We had a wonderful group of students from across the nation, including Cornell, Duke, NYU, Middlebury, Hawaii, and Rice, as well UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, San Jose State, and San Francisco State.   

I had the honor of filling in the attendees with the latest news from King Hall, including the beautiful Martin Luther King Jr. mural in the King Hall courtyard.  I had a group of former civil procedure students in attendance, including Casey Hatton '06, who introduced me, Brandy Christensen '06, Faustino Abad '05, and Irene Yang '06.  Other amazing alums in attendance included Ellen Demson '18, Bill Tamayo '78, Bill Mantle '74, Rachel Kane '17, George Wailes '81, and Gene Woo '85.

What a nice way to spend a beautiful spring day in the City by the Bay!
