ACLU Deputy Legal Director, Cecillia Wang, Delivers Annual Immigration Lecture

The Immigration and Nationality Law Review (INLR) hosted its annual immigration lecture on Tuesday, March 13. The speaker was ACLU Deputy Legal Director Cecillia Wang, a legendary advocate of the rights of immigrants. Among other cases, Wang successfully litigated a class action in which the court found that Maricopa County, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Sheriff's Office had engaged in a pattern and practice of racial profiling of Latinos and U.S. citizens as well as immigrants in its law enforcement activities.

In a lecture attended by professors, students, and members of the community, Wang discussed the various immigration policies of President Trump, including the so-called Muslim travel bans and the attacks on "sanctuary" jurisdictions. She also discussed the litigation of those policies.

Two of King Hall's immigration experts - Professors Rose Villazor and Shayak Sarkar - offered insights on Wang's lecture.

Once again, UC Davis School of Law hosted an event shedding light on immigration, one of the central civil rights issues of the 21st century.
