ABA honors Professor Raquel Aldana for service to legal profession
On Sunday, August 11 th, I was fortunate to attend the ABA Commission on Women in the Profession’s 29 th Annual Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Awards Luncheon held at the ABA Annual Meeting. The five honorees, extraordinary women leaders, included my colleague Raquel Aldana, Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Diversity and Professor of Law. Professor Aldana spoke eloquently about her journey as a human rights activist, scholar and educator. Professor Aldana has inspired and mentored many law students and lawyers, and several of them were featured in a video that chronicled her important work and influence on their careers and education. We at UC Davis are incredibly lucky to have Professor Aldana as a colleague!
Like Professor Aldana, the other four nominees each gave inspiring remarks about mentoring and promoting women and diverse lawyers. I came away hopeful for the possibilities available to the law students graduating from UC Davis.
