2019 Swearing-In Ceremony

Last Friday night, UC Davis School of Law held a wonderful, uplifting event for the Class of 2019.  Each year, King Hall holds a Swearing-In Ceremony for the alums who passed the July 2019 California bar exam.

The swearing-in ceremony always has a celebratory feel, with family, friends, and the soon-to-be attorneys.  I always enjoy congratulating the new attorneys, who are the next generation of leaders in the legal profession.

For the first time in law school history, we had two UC Davis School of Law alums administer the oaths.  After some thoughtful remarks about the roles that lawyers play in society,  Judge Lauri Damrell '05 of the Sacramento Superior Court administered the state oath.  Judge Damrell, who taught a class in Implicit Bias this fall at King Hall, practiced employment law at Orrick in Sacramento.

Magistrate Judge Dennis M. Cota '86, of the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California, administered the federal oath.  He first offered inspiring remarks on the professional responsibilities of lawyers. Judge Cota was a successful lawyer and founded the Cota Cole law firm, which has flourished for many years.  He has taught trial practice and coached our extremely successful trial practice competition teams for many years.

The swearing-in ceremony is a great way to begin the holiday season!
