2019 Diversity Law Student Reception

Judge Mesiwala

On Saturday, September 7 ^th, I had the pleasure of attending the 12th Annual Diversity Law Student Reception of the South Asian Bar Association of Sacramento (SABA of Sacramento). The event was hosted by Judge Shama Mesiwala ’98 of the Superior Court of Sacramento County. Judge Mesiwala is also a lecturer at King Hall, and has mentored dozens of King Hall students. And SABA’s board includes several King Hall alums, including Zainab Shakoor ’15 and Rabia Reed ’17. Rabia is also a lecturer at the law school teaching analytical and persuasive writing.

The event was a huge success, and even the weather was delightful!  The event provided an opportunity for students to connect with the many attending local Judges and attorneys, including former alumni board members Kara Ueda ’00 and Kim Lucia ’09.  Faculty in attendance included Carlton Larson, Robert Miller, Lisa Klotz and Clay Tanaka, as well as Dean Greenwood (who had encouraged LLM students to attend the reception).  It was great to see King Hall’s diverse student body speaking with leaders practicing in all areas of the legal field. I had a chance to spend some time with one of my 1L mentees from our First Generation Advocates Program, as well as speak to numerous students including our terrific LLMs.
