2019 APALSA Culture Week

The Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) held its “culture week” this week. They had some great speakers, events, and food. Earlier this week, I ran into one of the speakers, Judge Russell Hom of the Sacramento County Superior Court. Judge Hom has been a friend of UC Davis School of Law for many years, and he often hires our students as summer externs. A few years ago, Judge Hom was the keynote speaker at APALSA’s annual dinner, and spoke eloquently on diversity in the judiciary. Judge Hom came to King Hall for the lunch talk with fellow Superior Court Judge Richard K. Sueyoshi, who I was pleased to meet. There was a long line for the wonderful Indian food served for the event.

On Thursday, APALSA had a public interest panel to close out its culture week. Patrick Ting '14, a supervising attorney with Legal Services of Northern California, offered the perspectives of a legal  services lawyer.  Mariko Yoshihara of the California Lawyers Association and Eric Dang, policy consultant to the President pro Tem of the California Senate, also were on the panel.

A full house was in attendance. Students interested in public interest law heard a wealth of information about public interest career paths.
APALSA really had a great set of events for its culture week.
