The estimated UC Davis School of Law Student Expense Budget below covers the nine-month academic year only and represents the average costs for a single, first-year law student living off-campus. For second and third-year student budgets, please click here. Students who are married, have dependents, or other special circumstances, should contact Financial Aid for a personalized review of the standard budget. Please note financial aid is not available for the summer or any other period of non-enrollment, students should access other resources to cover expenses during these times.

California Residency
Although tuition is dependent on residency, the Financial Aid Office does not determine residency. Detailed information about residency is provided at the UC Davis Office of the Registrar's web site. Specific questions about residency should be directed to the UC Davis Residency Deputy.

Figures for tuition and fees represent currently approved or proposed amounts and may not be final. Actual tuition and fees are subject to change by the University of California as determined to be necessary or appropriate. Final approved tuition and fee levels may differ from the amounts presented. Some or all instruction for all or part of the academic year may be delivered remotely. Tuition and fees have been set regardless of the method of instruction and will not be refunded in the event instruction occurs remotely for any part of the academic year.
Professional Degree Supplemental Tuition is the maximum PDST approved for 2026-27, and does not require additional approval. Campus-Based fees are estimates subject to UCOP and/or campus processes and actions during Spring 2026. The Health Insurance (SHIP) amount for academic year is final, approved amount as of April 6, 2026. Books and Supplies figure is provided by School of Law. All other non-fee figures are calculated by applying Office of the President (OP) provided CPI to 2025-26 cost of attendance based on OP survey. - 2
All students must have valid health insurance and are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) at an annual cost of $7,992. Students who have comparable insurance can apply for a SHIP waiver and reduce the cost of attendance by $7,992.
