The California International Law Center at King Hall benefits from the many UC Davis School of Law faculty who are expert in aspects of international, comparative, and transnational law. They publish books, articles, op-eds, and blog posts on topics as varied as cross-border crime and comparative civil rights, food security and global finance, international trade and immigration detention. They advise government officials and nongovernmental organizations, assist in the drafting of international treaties, and participate in academic conferences on many continents. Anupam Chander
Center Director
The California International Law Center is led by Director Anupam Chander, Professor of Law at UC Davis School of Law and leading scholar in the law of globalization and digitization. A graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School, Professor Chander clerked for Chief Judge Jon O. Newman of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and Judge William A. Norris of the Ninth Circuit. He has written widely on international law, cyberlaw, and corporate law, with recent publications in the Yale Law Journal, N.Y.U. Law Review, California Law Review, and University of Chicago Law Review. In 2012 and 2013, he was named as recipient of several Google Faculty Research Awards to study the relationship between free speech and the development of global Internet enterprise. He is the author of The Electronic Silk Road, published by Yale University Press.
Uyen P. Le

Uyen completed her undergraduate degree in social and political psychology at Yale University in 2006 and received her J.D. five years later from King Hall, where she earned Certificates in the Public Service Law Program and the Pro Bono Law Program. Her research focuses on international human rights law and public international law. During law school, Uyen worked at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and the International Center for Transitional Justice in New York City. Her works on contemporary problems in international law were published in the American Journal of International Law (in a paper coauthored with Professors Madhavi Sunder and Anupam Chander), the North Carolina Journal of International Law and Commercial Regulation, and the UC Davis Journal of International Law & Policy.

Nina has been with King Hall since 2008 and became an integral part of the California International Law Center since 2012. Acting as a liaison between the Center's staff, affiliated student organizations, visiting speakers, and partnering institutions, Nina manages the Center's internal operation and public engagements.

Varun Aery's research interest focuses on international law and human rights issues in South Asia. In summer 2014, Varun participated in the International Human Rights Law Program at Oxford University. Here, Varun explored the comparative evolution of international human rights law across transatlantic borders, the UN treaty bodies’ contributions to human rights law, and key challenges in securing economic, social, and cultural rights.
Varun had worked at the United States Federal Trade Commission and interned at the Department of Justice. Drawing on his public service background and recognizing the urgent need for greater human rights protections, Varun aspires to pursue a human rights career focusing on South Asia. Varun received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley.
