The King Hall Class of 2001 has been busy as usual.
Luis Angel Alejo is now working as a staff attorney with the Monterey County Superior Court where he assists self-represented litigants who cannot afford private attorneys. He previously worked for nearly four years as a staff attorney with California Rural Legal Assistance (CRLA) in Watsonville. He recently became the vice-chair of the Chicano Latino Caucus of the California Democratic Party, and was also awarded the prestigious John F. Kennedy, Jr. Award for Outstanding Public Service (Young Democrat of the Year) by the California Democratic Party at the State Democratic Convention in San Jose on March 29. On April 13, he was also elected as a national delegate (one of only two) for Barack Obama for the Monterey Bay area, and will be attending the National Democratic Convention in Denver on August 25-28. He currently serves as the vice-chair for the City of Watsonville Planning Commission.
Meghan Atwood and Liams Connel are still living in southern Spain, where their daughter Helena Marie Iwalani Connel was born on September 18, 2007. They are enjoying the new adventure that is parenthood, and will be moving back to the States in mid 2009. This is too good to be true… a match made in our very own class after law school… was it Imwinkelried’s Contracts or Dobris’ Property that love forever bloomed?
Kelly Evans and Kevin Bayley are married. Congratulations to the happy couple! They join the ranks of Courtney and Scott Nelson.
Rochelle Costa (Beaulac) and Chris Costa 00’ welcomed baby Isabella to their family. Big sister Emily is now three years old. Rochelle works at Luce Forward and enjoys life in San Diego. She’s currently taking a six month leave to enjoy spending more time with Chris and the girls.
Sara Braun and Brian Pitre finally took the plunge and got married last year! They are anxiously awaiting the birth of their baby boy due on May 15. Brian works in investment management and has an in-house position at Mellon Capital in San Francisco.
Kai Ching Cha has two children and is back at work practicing employment law at Littler in San Francisco.
Robin Finch (Snell) and Brent Finch 00’ (’99?) welcomed their second child Samantha last September. Congratulations to the proud parents.
Cameron Westwater Fox was recently elected to the partnership of Paul Hastings LLP in Los Angeles, where she practices in the Employment Law Department. She and her husband Brien have two children and live near Pasadena.
Michael Korshin has a lot of news. He got married last November. He’s expecting a baby girl on May 9 th. He is taking the California Bar in July. He and his wife are moving back to Sutter, CA where they bought a house. He is happy to report that Sage the dog is doing well and turns 9 on May 1.
Nicki Lee is engaged.
Courtney Nelson (Cross) and Scott Nelson have a 17 month old son, Drew. Scott, Drew and Courtney are living in Orange County where Courtney is in house counsel for a real estate investment company. Scott is a business litigator at a small firm in Irvine.
Damon Ott is still working at Littler Mendelson in San Francisco, where he started straight out of school. HE reports a love for his job and down time in San Francisco. At the beginning of the year (2008) he was made partner. He’s also on the Summer Associates Committee and the Hiring Committee. He’s unmarried and currently living in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. Outside of work, Damon takes full advantage of San Francisco's many offerings, as well as going to Tahoe for skiing. He’s gone to Burning Man two of the last three years and plans on going again this year. (If you're ok with a little dust, he recommends that everyone check it out.) . While waiting to be discovered in Hollywood, Sage Reeves recently accepted a staff position at the Disability Legal Rights Center. His wife Anne is going to Dental School at UCLA.
Jane Suhr had a baby girl last October. Baby Reni was born on October 15, 2007 weighing 8 pounds, 5 ounces, and is a little over 20 inches tall. Mommy and Daddy couldn’t be happier.
Dave Sanders reports that this past year has been a very busy one. In October he became the Chief Operations Officer for the California Correctional Peace Officers Association. In his new position he supervises the day-to-day operations of the union which has over 30,000 members and about 100 employees, 25 of which are attorneys. Anyone who watches state politics knows that public sector labor, and specifically his union's relationship with the Governor, has been exciting this year. Dave did manage a quick trip to Washington in March and was also admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar. Outside of work, he and his wife Jan, 14 year old daughter Alex, still live in Woodland where he is completing his sixth year as a member of the Woodland Planning Commission and his third year as Chair. Although he is often asked, he has again resisted running for the City Council. Dave reports that Woodland has become a really fine city and many of you would be surprised by the changes! On the personal front he continues to work on his hot rod and various "project" classic motorcycles. He also became a certified SCUBA diver early this year in an effort to stave off "beach boredom" while
vacationing.
Tim Wykle’s daughters each had their first babies last fall, so Tim and his wife are proud grandparents of a little girl and a little boy. Tim has been a partner in his firm for over a year and a half now, and his general civil litigation practice is going well. Tim is still training and racing bicycles. Judy and Tim are trying to get up to Alaska for a fly fishing trip within the next 18 months.
As for Sarah Boxer, she is still with the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office enjoying prosecuting Domestic Violence cases.
