I was a first year student in Professor Dykstra's torts class. It was a large class of about 100 students. We had assigned seats so that Professor Dykstra could get to know our names.
It seemed to me, at least, that he knew my name too well as he often called on me. “Miss Westfall,” he would say and then proceed with his question. You could be sure that there was never just one question!
Early in the second semester, he called on me again. I remember responding, “Professor Dykstra, you know me so well by now that you may call me by my first name, Penny.” He proceeded to call me “Miss Penny” for the remainder of the year.
