Dolores Huerta exhibit in Sacramento

Last weekend, I had the honor of attending the opening of a new exhibit devoted to United Farm Workers co-founder Dolores Huerta at the California Museum in Sacramento.

It was an event with a heavy UC Davis presence. I was able to attend with the assistance of King Hall alum Eduardo Díaz ’76, who works at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

The Smithsonian’s traveling exhibit “Dolores Huerta: Revolution in the Fields / Revolución en los Campos” began its tour at the California Museum. The festivities included a Q&A session with Dolores Huerta and California First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom. It was a fascinating discussion of political activism with Huerta, who was central to the struggle for farmworkers’ rights.

The exhibit was exhilarating ‑ photos, artwork, and much more. I ran into King Hall alum Yoshinori (Toso) Himel ’75 and his wife Barbara Takei at the exhibit. Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF) artist Malaquías Montoya, a professor emeritus in Chicana/o Studies at UC Davis, also enjoyed the exhibit, which included some RCAF artwork.
